joy in the morning

There was a certain and significant amount of joyous relief that overwhelmed me this morning when I woke up to find that Garrett's fever, which has persisted for three days, always hovering around 104 degrees, had finally broken. Garrett doesn't get sick very often, but when he does, he falls hard, and it breaks my heart to see him so miserable. Caleb has also been sick, but unlike his brother, he has bounced right back after exhibiting only mild symptoms. When your children are sick, your focus naturally shifts to nurse them back to health, however futile your attempts to ease their misery might seem. But when Garrett is sick, my whole world stops, and it's all I can do to pull him, pale and lethargic, out of his feverish delirium.

A trip to the doctor yesterday ruled out any infection, and we were sent home to wait it out. Part of me was thrilled with the diagnosis, but most of me was wishing that there was something we could have been given to just fix him -- especially when, once we'd left the doctor's office, his fever spiked again. (Of course the only time his fever was "low-grade" was when the doctor was examining him.) His voice is still raspy and his cough is still disgustingly productive, but his personality is returning. It's wet and rainy outside -- the perfect weather for recuperating, which is exactly what we aim to do today.

Sounds like it's time to break out the Coco-motion machine and have a nice cup of hot chocolate. We're praying for you!

BTW - Scott is almost finished packing. Tonight at 7 PM his first name will change to Elder.

That sounds miserable, poor little guy (and his poor mommy, too!). I hope your boys feel better soon, and that you don't catch it, too.
