portraits by the artist as a very young man

Garrett has blossomed into a prolific little artist. Give him some crayons or markers, pencils or pens, and he'll set to do is "clern" like it's serious business. Some of his artwork is proudly displayed around the apartment. The rest is piling up faster than I can find a place for it. (Because did I mention he's prolific?) Here are a few of his pieces that demonstrate some of his favorite things to draw.

According to Garrett, these are flowers.

I realize this one is hard to see (it was done in pencil), but these are also flowers. This time they have stems.

He really likes drawing spirals.

And sometimes his spirals are big.

He drew this one yesterday. It was his first experience with markers. (Markers are his new favorite; washable markers are mine.) The big blue oval in the center is, according to Garrett, a balloon, as is the blue circle-with-string just to the left of it. The blue ridged circle to the lower right is a cloud. When he finished drawing that one, he proudly pointed to it and said "Sky!" The green jagged squiggles at the bottom (and the blue ones at the top) are writing.

I keep telling Sean our kids are each getting a personal ream of printer paper for Christmas this year. Currently they just snitch it in tens from the computer desk and make page after page after page of artwork. And "NO, they cannot possibly draw on the backs of the paper as well! Am I INSANE?" Good think I love them anyway...

Garrett sure is becoming the little artist! I love his drawings and I especially love the one of the balloons! So well done! Go Garrett!

I didn't even need the translation. I can totally see the flowers and the balloon. Great job Garrett!

Ooh, can I pre-order paintings so I can be one of the first to own these gems before they hit the big exhibits?

I'm jealous! Zara doesn't care about drawing. The only recognizable thing she has drawn is a circle, and...? She prefers to play with the coloring utensils, but I hope she starts to love drawing soon b/c I LOVED IT! And Garrett's drawings are cute! And it's another thing that can keep them entertained!
