at the new york aquarium

I suppose that it doesn't take a genius to figure out that a very cold Monday morning in February just might be the ideal time to visit the New York Aquarium. Not only did we practically have the entire place to ourselves, but we managed to time it just right so that we were able to see...

the shark feeding,

the penguin feeding,

and the walrus feeding.

Because we were pretty much the only people watching, we got a one-on-one Question and Answer session with the feeders, which proved to be incredibly fascinating. We learned that sharks aren't always ravenously hungry, that penguins aren't afraid of or deterred by seagulls attempting to swipe their meal, and that walruses can be trained to do amazing tricks using positive reinforcement.

And during the rest of our visit, we inadvertently met up with the cast of Finding Nemo.

How fun! If only it weren't snowing...dying to get back to the zoo. Even in the cold it's the BEST place to spend the day.

Way fun! We went to the Monterey Aquarium on one of the busiest days of the year, so unfortunately it was not as enjoyable as it could have been. Although I'm sure that aquarium is probably routinely busy every day of the year.

How come your hubby didn't have to work? This sounds like fun. As much as I hate the late hours my husband works, I love the days when we go to Disneyland in the middle of the week and there is no one there. It doesn't make up for him being gone but it is a nice perk! Thanks for sharing.

Fun! I love going to aquariums. We went to the one in San Fran but they didn't have any sharks. Oh-well.

Blake had a vacation day that he had to use or lose. Having him around definitely made the excursion better.

We've been going to the aquarium up in Sandy, and Kate loves it. I think it's fun how the zoos and aquariums are making sure to have Nemo & Dory fish. Very important!
