blessing day

Matthew was given a name and a blessing today at church by his father. He was blessed that throughout his life he would always know and feel the love Heavenly Father has for him, as well as that he would remember to always turn to the Savior. He was blessed with good health, and to grow and develop as he needed to. He was reminded to always choose the right, and was advised to be a good example to his brothers and to the other people he would associate with during his life. He was blessed to have a good attitude, a listening ear, to be sensitive to the spirit, and to watch for others with a good example to follow. Lastly, he was advised to remember the examples of his namesake and those generations of family members who came before him.

Blake was conducting Sacrament Meeting, and it made me smile to see how flustered he was trying to find the right way to essentially invite himself up to the stand to perform the ordinance. He was joined in the circle by his two counselors, our home teachers, and another friend from the ward. A variety of circumstances prevented much family, as well as a long-time friend of Blake's who lives in Manhattan, from also participating, but my mom, who has been out here visiting for the last week, was able to attend.

Matthew was a little fussy up there in Blake's arms, and Caleb decided that during the blessing was the perfect time to start whining in his loudest voice about his lost coin. But despite those small disruptions, it was a beautiful blessing and a lovely day.
