firsts

This was a weekend of firsts. Here they are, in no particular order.

1. Matthew's First Haircut. It was more of a teeny tiny trim than a cut, but he was getting shaggy, and since our genetics don't run to curly golden locks, something had to be done. My friend, Christy, did the honors, and Matthew squirmed and fidgeted and fussed as much as you would expect a baby who has to be restrained would, but with a little creativity and a lot of patience no one got hurt. And now that his hair isn't straggling down half-way over his ears anymore, he's looking much more dapper.

2.  Caleb's First Day of Primary. It would have been last week, but as you may recall, we spent last Sunday quarantined with the flu. Because it was a special day, Caleb let me dress him up a little more than usual. He was so excited to be a big boy! There is one other little girl in Sunbeams -- Lola -- plus another who will join them when she returns from an extended stay in Japan. His teacher (my friend, Ali, who also happens to Lola's mother) told me after church that he was darling and that she's just as excited about this year as he is. Apparently Caleb and Lola are also quite the complementary combination -- and they both have a particular fondness for the word "poopy."

 Caleb the Sunbeam!

 Putting on the smolder.

Excited to be in Primary.

3. Garrett's First Visit to the Natural History Museum. Oh wait -- he's already been there a half a dozen times at least, and probably even more. But he was so thrilled to go on Saturday to see the space exhibits, you would have thought it was his first time. Whenever we visit the Natural History Museum, we end up getting sucked into the stuffed animal exhibits and miss a lot of the rest. So this time we focused only on Space and Rocks and Minerals -- two of Garrett's current favorite subjects. He made it clear that he really only wanted to see the planets, but once we reached the displays of all the huge, sparkly precious stones, even he had to admit they were pretty neat.

The planets Garrett was dying to see.

Garrett: "Mom! Take my picture with the planets!"
Caleb: "Me too!"

Just a few bighorn sheep we passed on the way to the halls of rocks and minerals.

Matthew was so sweet sleeping on Bishop's shoulder today--it made me happy. Congrats to Caleb. He looked so sharp today (he always does, but especially today)!
